31 peg loom: fingers to base
Index Finger
DSCO 9 pegs
Row 1-15: K9 (Half finger, K9 11 rows)
(Move your end loops in by 1 peg. Looks like a decrease but we aren't decreasing)
Middle Finger
DSCO 5 pegs
Row 1-21: K5 (Half finger, K5 15rows)
(Move your loop from your index finger back to where it was, the move your loop on the other end in by one peg to prep for the ring finger. We will be doing this concept all the way around, with each finger.)
Ring Finger
DSCO 5 pegs
Row 1-17: K5 (Half finger, K5 11 rows)
Repeat step above on moving your end loops around.
Pinky Finger
DSCO 8 pegs
Row 1-15: K8 (Half finger, K8 9 rows)

Move your index finger loop back over  and now you can start working circularly. It is okay if you didn't cut your yarn when adding the fingers. You can cut that later.
Now working the upper part of the hand

Row 30: P1, K1 11times
Row 31-38: Repeat rows 29 and 30 4times

Turn inside out. Sew up cuff and gather the stiches around the decreased area.  Sew up your thumb area. Now Tighten your Cast on with all your finger ends. The cut the extra dangling strings in half. Use these strings to tie your fingers in place to prep to sew all your fingers together. After you do that, sew all your fingers up at once, and snip all your extra yarn and flip right side out. Make 2 and your done.  If you made the half fingers you will need to crochet and edge around the tops of the finger holes. Also would suggest an EW CO rather than a Draw String Cast On.

A wonderful subscriber decided to take his own time and effort to write out and write up a larger pattern size for gloves on a round loom. Below are his notes.

Do yourself a huge favor and watch the Glove Knit Along link called out below.
This pattern is based on her video and has just been modified to better fit a man’s
hand. Green Loom vice Red Loom for a little extra finger room, et al.
Her video gives a lot of tips and tricks for the lace up of the glove, all of which are
applicable for this pattern.

  2. I'm not sure if my previous comment worked so if theres double, I'm sorry. :) I wanted to know if you had any tips on how to make a smaller pair of gloves. After seeing me make a pair my 9 year old says he would like some. Thank you for all these wonderful patterns its hard to choose what to make next. :)

    1. Because your child is older this will be easier than if the child was a toddler. So my suggestion would be to remove the over lap on your fingers so you would use 8 pegs index, 4 pegs middle and ring, 7 pegs pinky. Also shorten all your rows by 3 that includes fingers and hand and thumb. Also only use 4 pegs for your thumb. This should give you a shorter and smaller glove that will fit your child. Hope this was helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  4. The Thumb is a batch of short rows 30 that the top is connected but the sides of the thumb will need to be sewn up. If there is a specific that is giving you trouble just let me know.

    1. If you are making a full fingered set of gloves your thumb is knitting 5 pegs back and forth for 29 rows. This is called short rows, when you knit just an area of pegs rather than all. The 29 rows means you are knitting a long area that will be both sides of the thumb that will need to be sewn up when you have completed the glove. Even if you are using the Boye loom you still knit 2 to start the row, then with the next 5 pegs work the thumb. Please let me know the specific area of the thumb that is stumping you. I want to help, just need to know exactly what is stumping you on the thumb, once I know that I can explain better. So Sorry for the trouble.

  6. Finally finished my first glove! I watched the video and read the instructions but there were a few places I still got confused. Knit 20 then start to decrease. Well, I came back instead of making 21 my 'first peg' and the 15 rows from fingers to thumb is way too long for my hand so I am shortening to 12-13 rows. Anyways, thanks for the pattern! This is the only pattern for the loom with has full fingers that I have been able to find.

  7. Hi I would like to do this one for a child. Will it work with this loom? She is 5 years old and the circumference of her hand is 6.5 inches and from wrist to tip of middle finger is 5 inches. I am new to this and do not know how to convert to children sizes.
Thanks so much for your help,

    Amy

  8. Ma'am,
Just made using your red loom instructions and Catnip Yarns Kona Superwash Bulky a pair of gloves that will quite easily fit a medium male hand without having to resort to the green loom instructions.

Would imagine, though have not yet tried it, that this same bulkier yarn and the green loom instructions would make a pair of gloves that would fit a large male hand.

  9. My husband is a BIG man and has big hands. I am attempting (third try) the modified larger glove. There is no video anymore so this visual learner is having kittens trying to understand how this works.

Once all the fingers are finished, on the hand section, it says to knit 33. Since she says that the whole glove is knitted flat, and there are 36 pegs on this loom, am I supposed to cast on one at either end? After all we have moved the last loop back one and the first loop we made is moved forward... that means there are stitches on 31 of the pegs not 33. Don't get me started on how to get to and make the thumb part! Totally discombobulated!!!!

I will keep trying. Hubby knows I get determined on these kinds of things and knows he will get his gift in 2020 if it takes that long to conquer it! LOL! Thanks for any and all help!

    1. Did I miscount the number of loops on the loom after the 4 fingers done and the loop shuffles completed? Entirely possible :p

Basically, what I was trying to say, is after you get finished doing your 15th short row of the pinky finger, do 15 flat rows of the loom pegs that are populated with yarn in order to fill up the upper palm on the glove.

After you get done with the 15 flat rows of 33 pegs, start working on the thumb, meaning, flat knit from peg 1 to 19, then from 19 to 14, 14 to 19… until you have made the short 6 peg trip 29 times, then flat knit to the end of the populated pegs on the loom (peg 20 to peg 33).

I do hope that I haven’t confused you further, and that you have a pleasant and joyous New Year.

  11. hi, I have finished my first glove with this pattern, but not sure were I put the thumb for the left hand glove as otherwise I will have two right hand ones.

    1. There is no difference between right and left hand gloves, at least with this pattern. As the gloves get worn, and the weave shifts around, a glove may develop its own... handedness... but the pattern didn't put it there :p

    2. I know I'm late to this discussion, but I'm just finishing up my first left handed glove. I worked the fingers in reverse order from the first glove (middle, ring, pinky...), did the 15 rows and then k25 and worked the thumb. Perfect!

  12. I am trying to do the half thumb I'm a little lost do I knit the five 411 Rose and then move that middle one over. Or do I knit to decrease one knit two and keep going that way I'm sorry to bother you but I need your help I really appreciate it I love your work

  13. Clueless, have never made a half finger glove. I suspect that you would have to bind off half of the thumb after your 5 rows, then cast on again on the same pegs you just took off and start working the other half of the thumb again in order for there to be 2 finished edges.

This is an unsatisfactory answer, and I am sorry. Yer gonna have to wait until Scarlett has the time and inclination for a proper answer.

  16. Hello! I am new to knitting and only like looms. I found a 6 ply bulky yarn, made a scarf on a long loom, found your glove tutorial, bought some round looms and tried it. lol! didn't know the size of the yarn mattered so much. any ideas or links on how to adjust this pattern for the Super bulky yarn, from 4 to 6? not having luck so far but want to make it work. Making it for mom for Christmas.

  17. I must be dumb because the thumb on the green loom makes no sense

  18. Does it have to be a round loom? I have a loom set that is modular but it only has straight pieces, will a square work too?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well, perhaps.... this pattern is rather an odd duck in that the size of the gloves finger holes are determined both by the number of pegs being used per finger and the distance between each peg. The pattern will probably work, but the size hand it will fit is unknown.

The shape of the loom doesn't matter, as long as it does come together for the knitting in the round portions.

  20. Thank you very much, I will try it out and let you know if it works out

  21. I apologize if this seems like a silly question, but I am new to knitting gloves on a loom. I can do hats and scarves no real problem at all, but gloves confuse me. Is the pattern for the 36 peg loom starting fingers first totally? The reason I ask is because in the 31 peg instructions it starts with DSCO 9 pegs, but I don't see that line in the 36 peg instructions. Could someone explain please? I was hoping to make my husband a pair of gloves for Christmas.

    1. My fan started with the pinky rather than the index but the concept is still the same. I hope this makes sense. He will state the finger and how many to dsco. Hope this was helpful.

    2. Thanks, I did get that after looking more closely, but I am having a real problem with the math because I am doing the fingers the way described, but somehow I end up using less pegs than are described. I counted and counted, but I am not sure where I am going wrong.

  22. Thanks to a fellow loomer, I found this pattern for complete, rather than fingerless, gloves. I needed this type of pattern, because the charity that I knit for tells me that, in the winter, they are in most need of men's hats and gloves. Can't wait to try this one to start off my winter knits donations for the year. It's only July, but there is such a great, great need, and I only have so much energy to work with, given my chronic health conditions. And this year, the need will be greater, with the ways COVID-19 is affecting our country. Thanks for the pattern, and also going to try your baby onesie soon!

  23. Would a 44 peg work? Because my next one down is a 20 peg. I don't have 31 peg or an 36 peg.
